The fight over how Americans vote has arrived, again, in the mailroom. The legal theory will be argued. The ballots still have to move.

WASHINGTON — A group of states sued the United States Postal Service over President Trump’s mail-in voting order, PBS NewsHour reported in Wednesday’s news wrap. The lawsuit is the latest attempt to turn the logistics of ballots into a constitutional argument, which is a tradition as American as complaining about the post.

Mail ballots are not a vibe. They are a chain of custody: request, print, deliver, return, deadline, count. Any presidential order that changes how USPS treats that chain will be litigated because the chain is how millions of people vote. The courts will decide the order. The Postal Service still has to move the envelopes.

Desk note. We have the existence of the suit from national broadcast reporting. We do not yet have a full docket read in this file. When the complaint is public in full, we will quote the actual relief the states are asking for — not the cable-news version.
